Bolivian artist Claudia Joskowicz‘s two-screen video installation is a wandering narrative centered on a real life Bolivian drug trafficker nicknamed the “King of Cocaine,” who significantly boosted the Bolivian economy with an influx of cash in the 80s. He also initiated their military coup and offered to pay Bolivia’s $3 million debt to the U.S. Her film weaves the interior and exterior, the personal and the historic in an attempt to comment on the power of myth while providing a more complete picture of her home’s history. You can see the installation until January 24th.

Juan Hinojosa: Blonde Ambition
Artist Juan Hinojosa has a show of collages that discuss greed, consumerism and material gain at Materials for the Arts, a space in Long Island City. This gallery, which has been open since 1978, reuses discarded materials across the city and makes them available to working artists in need– a very green and sustainable practice. Hinojosa’s opening will be this Thursday December 17th from 6 to 9pm, and the show will be up until April 1st.

Bori Cuba 2x2
This is the closing week for Bori-Cuba 2×2 at the Abrazo Interno gallery in the Clemente building. This show explores how Cuban and Puerto Rican artists demonstrate the shared roots of Spanish colonial history, and Pre-Columbian Taino ancestry between the lands. The last day to see the show is Friday December 18th.
