Directed by Serban Ionescu and filmed on location in Puerto Rico—Juncos, Las Marías, and Manatí to be exact—Fantasmes’ mini film, “The Shadow Self,” follows a white-wearing man searching for something (a cleansing ritual? some form of closure?). Ionescu plays up the song’s witchiness more than its cowboy qualities, conjuring up images of santeria and other religio-magic disciplines.
