Yesterday as part of the many Tribeca Film Festival events, Bombay Sapphire presented its second annual Imagination Series. This awesome competition offers the next generation of filmmakers the chance to work alongside world-class talent to produce their own short films.
Academy Award-winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher wrote a spare, short script that contained no direction or description aside from the dialogue. This script was offered to filmmakers, giving them the challenge of creating an entire world from their imagination. Over 1,300 entries from 68 different countries submitted their films to the competition, and five winners were given the chance to premiere their creations at Tribeca. The results are five incredible films that took a few lines of dialogue and transformed them into a world of romance, a psychological thriller, and science fiction, which take the viewers on a journey of creative visions come to life.
Check out one of the winning films Grafitti Area below by filmmaker Maite Fernandez Perez of Spain. The short follows two artists and shows their street art coming alive in a fantastical way you would never expect. Make sure to watch the rest of the films — in a few minutes they will haunt you, make you laugh and make you appreciate the beauty of our imaginations.

Maite Fernandez Perez on the inspiration behind her winning script for Graffiti Area:
“I decided to participate in the Bombay Sapphire Imagination Series to set myself a challenge. It was the first ever script I had ever attempted but I tried to keep a calm, positive attitude and over the summer I started to brainstorm ideas that I thought ‘fitted’ those of Geoffrey Fletcher. But despite spending the whole summer thinking about it, summer passed quickly and I didn’t feel happy with any of my ideas. But one day on my way to work, when surrounded by graffiti, I came up with the idea of two young men running away from something and that same weekend I wrote the script and submitted it. I never imagined all of this could become real.”
