Get a taste of the Mexican street art scene at Dorian Grey Gallery where an epic collection of photographed work from Mexican street artists will be on view. Bebo, Dhear, Fusca, Meca, Meiz, Milamores, Minoz, Saner, Sego, Seher, Smithe, and Undo are the twelve artists in the show opening May 2nd. The artists come from D.F., Puebla, Sinaloa, and Tijuana, but a single city can never contain the street artist’s need to create public pieces of art. The artists have work in cities across Mexico and internationally. Attend the reception this Friday from 6 to 9pm but if you can’t make it, the show will be up until June 15th.
Viva México y el Arte Mexicano: A Guided Visit
Brooklyn Museum is taking its patrons on a tour of the pieces in its collection that have to do with Mexico. The Mexican art tour should encompass ancient objects as well as contemporary and fine art. The guided visit is Saturday, May 3rd at 6:30pm. While you’re learning everything about BKMuseum’s Mexican collection, make sure to stop by “Submerged Motherlands” by Brooklyn street artist Swoon. She has transformed the rotunda gallery into a jungle of paper portraits and massive tree sculpture in response to the effects of Hurricane Sandy and other disasters brought on by climate change.

Elisa Garcia de la Huerta “Vibrations/Vibraciones”
Chilean artist Elisa Garcia de la Huerta has an immersive audiovisual art show in Soho20 Gallery opening with a reception Thursday, May 1st, from 6 to 9pm. Her work involves sewn fabric wall pieces that connote a warmness found in the domestic spaces that often incorporate comforting textiles. A video installation that invites people to enter an intimate tent setting with images of domestic routines amid pastoral settings is also part of the show.
