Succulent

Succulent Studios is a new gallery in Greenpoint aimed at exhibiting art that pushes the boundaries of genre. The space is huge with a soaring vaulted ceiling and plenty of sunlight during the day. Their exhibit, which runs through April 26th, is a collection of edgy artists that do mural work, street art, public installations, tattoo art and more. The list of artists showing is robust: Marthalicia Matarrita from Harlem, Cekis from Chile, Peruvian artist Stefano Alcantara, Lunar New Year and many other national, international and New York-based artists. In the future, the space will be hosting more art parties, drawing parties and workshops.

Emilio Chapela: Man is the Measure

The work of artist Emilio Chapela might come off as esoteric but really his show is just about limits, boundaries and borders. How do we as humans perceive borders and how does that manifest politically, culturally and physically? One of his works ‘La Mojonera’ is a reconstruction of the landmarks used to demarcate national boundaries after the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed by Mexico and the U.S. Chapela lives and works in Mexico City but his show at Henrique Faria will be up til May 10th.

Vik Muniz: Album

Brazilian artist Vik Muniz has an exhibition at Sikkema Jenkins that makes large scale images out of an assemblage of vintage photographs and images collected over the years. The exhibit is a commentary on the perpetuity and waning worth of the image. Exhibit opens Thursday, April 10th until May 10th. Enjoy!
