Footprints on the Ceiling: Emilio Perez

Canvassed murals of tsunami-like movement curve around the walls of Galerie Lelong in Emilio Perez’s solo show. The oil paintings creep around the corners as if running away from the viewer. It’s a challenge to grasp the entire picture in one eyefull. New York born artist Emilio Perez is based out of Brooklyn and looks to sci-fi cover art, pulp fiction and traditional Baroque and Venetian painting for his influences. Catch his beautiful work on view until February 1st.

Ferran Adrià: Notes on Creativity

Over the years Master Chef Ferran Adriá has drawn visualizations of the Andalusian gourmet dishes he assembles in his kitchen. Who knew colorful articulations of plating diagrams on yellow graphed paper could be so beautiful and intricate? Go to the opening on Friday January 24th from 6 to 8pm where culinary genius and creative process that could be deemed as art intersect. No RSVP is needed and since the artist focuses on creating edible concoctions, I’m sure there will be treats.

Drawings from the South of America

Another show with drawings as the medium is opening this Friday. Work by South American artists and about South America will be shown at Henrique Faria gallery. Some of the drawings are abstract, others have more political overtones in collage form. Drawings give a brainy insight into an artist’s psyche and can be seen as developmental seeds for their larger works. The exhibit is short-lived. It opens friday January 24th and closes February 8th.
