Altered States

This Thursday an artists’ reception will be held for the two man show Altered States at C24 gallery in Chelsea. Los Angeles-based artists Ryan Perez and Martin Durazo created works for this show that explores the manipulation of physical and mental states of being. Perez is primarily an abstract painter using neon and metallic colors in his work while Durazo creates digitally-manipulated photographs. The opening will be this Thursday from 6 to 8 pm where you can sip some vino and alter your state of mind.

galería perdida: No Matter How Much You Push The Envelope, It’ll Still Be Stationery

galería perdida, an art collective from Michoacan, is having a show at Abrons Arts Center with an opening reception this Wednesday from 6 to 8pm. They aim to shake up the artistic structure and have turned the arts center into a booth-like installation with sculptures, photographs and videos. Supposedly a donkey is involved in this alternative exhibition format. However, it’s unclear if it’s an actual live donkey or a simulation. Don’t wait to find out after the fact! Come Wednesday and see the work being created by the interesting collaborative art group galería perdida.

Mona Kuhn: Acido Dorado

Brazilian photographer Mona Kuhn is presenting her first solo exhibition of large scale photographs in the U.S. this week. The exhibition will also act as a book-signing for her new photobook ‘Private’ Thursday September 11th from 6 to 8pm. The work in the show focuses on the body of her collaborator Jacintha as she interacts with the desert and an architectural golden palace in Joshua Tree National Park in California. Check out Acido Dorado through October 18th at Edwynn Houk Gallery.
