Listen: Andrea Balency's "You've Never Been Alone" [MEX]

Sweet sweet Andrea Balency. The French-Mexican singer/pianist has made a name for herself thanks to those unmistakable pipes and her collaborative spirit, first as a member of Mexico’s Torreblanca and then as the lead and namesake of Andrea Balency Trio. The latter spawned two of my favorite collections in recent memory (Lover EP and Mizraim), collections you should revisit ASAP. Now that she’s based in Paris her inspirations seem to have wandered far and wide, accruing more dub, hip-hop, and pure pop in the process.

You’ve never been alone,” produced by James Blake producer Airhead (a.k.a. Rob McAndrews), is her first single in years, a preview of what’s (hopefully) to come. Fans of Grimes and AlunaGeorge will dig this one, but, then again, if you have ears and a heart you’ll probably dig this, too.
