New Year’s Eve is behind us and the temperature at Remezcla’s NYC headquarters is hovering at 25 degrees. We’re still kind of hungover. It won’t be warm here for another three months. It basically feels like we have nothing to live for. Thankfully, there is no shortage of great films to keep us distracted during the desolate season of indoor hibernation that is Northeast winter, starting with the obvious: Oscar contenders! This year, a record 71 films were submitted for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category, including 10 Latin American films. These films – which have already been whittled down to a shortlist of 9 contenders – usually don’t benefit from the press blitzkrieg associated with being an Oscar nominee, but they’re still worth your attention.
