Although it might sound full and populated, Umbra Sum is the project of one Costa Rican expat stationed in Chicago. Ed Sánchez-Gómez went from San José to Europe to Argentina to Chi-town in an attempt to find a home for himself and his music. His upcoming official debut, Aún no has demostrado nada, comes out soon on Acuarela Discos, but, to fill the TBD time, we have “Que el verano nos perdone,” a subdued, noise-compressed, choral tune with distorted folk elements. All that traveling did the guy some good. This is a debut to be excited for, one that incorporates a slew of eras, regions, and styles in meticulous ways.
