Gael to play weird future Zorro in new movie

20th Century Fox is making a new Zorro film called Zorro Reborn. Forget about 19th Century Mexico or California, this film will apparently take place somewhere else entirely in a post-apocalyptic future. We’re not sure, then, what makes this a Zorro film at all, then, or why future post-apocalyptic Zorro would have to be Mexican, but, well, there you have it, them’s the rules. And playing future Zorro? “After a prolonged search,” apparently, it will be none other than Gael Garcia Bernal.

We like Gael, and we like post-apocalyptic films, so we’re probably going to see this even though, seriously, WTF.

According to Variety, the film will be “a futuristic reboot of the Zorro mythology that will not be set in California or Mexico, despite the story’s Western themes. Garcia Bernal would play the Spanish swordsman as a masked vigilante bent on revenge.” So apparently he’s still a Spanish swordsman? Swordsman? In the post-apocalyptic future? I’m hoping for Gael Garcia Bernal: Jedi Zorro.

Sorry, ladies, about the whole “mask” thing that will be covering Gael’s pretty face. Or maybe not – I mean, nothing else sounds like normal Zorro, here, so all bets are off.

WTF. Happy Friday, everybody.
