Rodrigo y Gabriela Go Pirate

Hans Zimmer-–Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies and Inception, Gladiator, lots of other movie soundtracks you love—has teamed up with acoustic guitarists Rodrigo y Gabriela to create the soundtrack  for the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Why Rodrigo y Gabriela? Well, we assume it has more than a little to do with the importance of Spanish culture to this film, namely Jack Sparrow’s new love interest, Angelica, played by Penelope Cruz, and the Fountain of Youth, which was much sought after by Spanish explorers.

In an interview with KCRW radio, Zimmer said of the Mexican pair:

The way we are working is, three of us sitting in the room and I play average keyboards and they play brilliant guitars, and we’re writing cues together. You know, there is a force and a ferocity about their sound…Plus I get to have a great time playing with them! I mean, they’re just incredible.

The soundtrack will be released May 17th, with the movie following on May 20th.
