Vico C + Mala Rodriguez
Vico C is one of the pioneers of rap and reggaeton music in Puerto Rico, and hence, Latin America, shaping the scene since it was still just called “underground,” making hits such as Bomba para Afincar, Viernes 13, Xplosión, and Recta Final. He came to be known as “El Filosofo” for his intelligent and meditative lyrics, even turning his own early 90’s struggle with subtance abuse into an opportunity to reflect and educate through his art. Weathering insults from younger players in the game, Vico C has stayed true to the style and positivity that’s served him so well over the years, and it hasn’t failed him yet; as other reggaeton “artists” come and go, rise and fall, Vico C has remained constant.
Rapper/BAMF/multiple Grammy award winner Mala Rodriguez, a.k.a. La Mala, comes to us from Spain with all the style and swagger you’ve come to expect. Since her first album, Lujo Iberico, dropped in 2000 and immediately became one of the highest selling albums in Spanish hip hop history, La Mala has gone on to invent and reinvent herself across three albums and more collaborations with top Latin artists than one can shakes a proverbial stick at. She’s a strong female voice in Spanish language music, a harder-core counterpoint to acoustic powerhouses like Julieta and Ximena, paving the way for the likes Ana Tijoux and Niña Dioz.
They’ll be joined by Remezcla favorites D’Marquesina.
