In collaboration with HFFNY, El Museo del Barrio brings us two films that portray the life of two teens in Colombia and Dominican Republic, Uprooted and El Play. In Uprooted an Afro-Colombian woman, that lives in a refugee shelter after the Colombia’s violence of 1990 struggles to send her son to a top-flight soccer academy. Uncertainty surround the family in the pursue of a better tomorrow. In the film, The Play a Dominican teen follows his dream to become a professional baseball player. Set in the city of San Pedro de MacorÃs where many baseball stars are born, the documentary shows us how many teens try to escape poverty, being baseball is one of the few ways out.
